Featured Puzzle: Math Ladders #1
The German puzzle Miss Lupun (an anagram of “plus minus”) was the inspiration for today’s puzzle – Math Ladders. Simply change the number at the top of the building into the number at the bottom using the mathematical operations in the circles between floors. Use only the digits 0-9 in four separate columns.
- Treat each digit separately, following the ladders down their column.
- Each circle contains 4 operations in numerical order, not necessarily the order of their use.
- Use each operation exactly once – each applies to a separate digit from the floor above to create the digit in the floor below.
- A number between windows on the same floor represents difference between adjacent numbers. (For example, a 7 between windows might be between 0 & 7, 1 & 8, 0r 2 & 9, in either order)
In the future, I’ll mix it up with multiplication and division operations, but for today, we’ll stick with simple addition and subtraction.
