Featured Puzzle: Herugolf #1 – Happy Golfer’s Day!
Happy Golfer’s Day! While there are a few different holidays celebrating the game scattered throughout the year, today honors the players of the game. To celebrate, let’s play a round with a Japanese puzzle called Herugolf! Hit the balls around the grid until each of them lands in a hole – but which one?
- The number on the ball indicates the strength of the first stroke. The ball must travel exactly that number of cells in a straight orthogonal line.
- Each following stroke must be reduced in strength by 1. For example, if the first line traveled 4 cells, the next must be 3 cells, then 2, and so on. Once the strength is reduced to 0, that ball may not move again.
- At each new stroke point, you may turn 90 degrees or continue straight.
- A stroke may cross water cells, but may not land in one.
- Line paths may not cross each other, the tees, or a hole.
- Some stroke sequences may land in a hole before reducing the strength to zero. You might move 3, then 2 cells and land in a hole, for example.
