Featured Puzzle – Tetroid #1

Spring is coming, a time of renewal. So why not introduce a new puzzle? Today, we have Tetroid, a grid division puzzle. It’s a little like L.I.T.S., except that there are no predefined regions, and you’re using all 5 tetromino shapes.

  • Divide the grid into regions of exactly 4 cells each, creating a tetromino.
  • Tetrominos may be rotated or reflected as needed.
  • Tetrominoes that share an edge may not be the same type.
  • Some cells are shaded. These obstacles do not belong to any tetromino.

I love finding unique holidays to theme a puzzle around. In Japan, Kakizome takes place on the second of January. It’s meant to celebrate one of the major traditional arts – calligraphy. This practice began as a court event during the Heian era during the late 8th century. They would make ink with water drawn on the morning of the first day, then write short aspirational poetry for the year.
